Bought it for my gf so she could work n walk. So far a bust on the dual function as she had yet to try it. My step mother however has one and uses it with good success.

well it seems to work (after the initial install), upon hearing from maker ,i understand why they manufacture in china ,still we need to stick together an on-shore everything we can . i have been using the very functional product more and more .

I was excited to find this product, as it looked like the perfect solution for someone like me who likes to watch shows or DVDs on my laptop while working out. It says in the description that it fits “99% treadmills, bikes and ellipticals.” Unfortunately, I was in that 1%, which really surprised me, not only because the odds were in my favor, but also because I have a Nordic Track AudioStrider elliptical. It’s a pretty popular brand. I wish they listed the ones that it won’t fit, so I didn’t have to go through the trouble or ordering and sending it back. Although, Amazon made it pretty easy to return. I made a call and UPS picked it up the next day.

For many treadmills, like mine, this maybe a very unsafe product.
Carefully look at the 2nd picture. Notice how the plate, resting directly on the treadmill, covers the buttons of the treadmill. On my treadmill, this plate covers the start, pause, and stop buttons. For me to pause my treadmill, I must:
1. Lift my laptop…while walking.
2. Lift the SurfShelf plate…while walking.
3. Press the Pause button…while holding my laptop and SurfShelf plate and walking.
Please don’t buy this product if most of your buttons will be covered. The plate, resting on the treadmill buttons, is 7″ in height and 9″ in width.
Another problem is that there is no way to use a mouse. I contacted the manufacturer. There is no SurfShelf accessory that can be purchased for using mouses. Unless you’re very comfortable using the touchpad mouse, it will be difficult to do things like surf the web or email when using your laptop with this product.
This product is only good if:
1. You will only watch DVD’s and/or Netflix.
2. Don’t need to extensively use a mouse.
3. Don’t ever need to get off of the treadmill to answer nature’s call, check the laundry, etc.

This is a fantastic add-on to my bike!
The directions for installing were a bit confusing, so eventually I just set them aside and used commonsense – the goal is to align the top of the shelf to the top of your exercise console…the tighter the fit, the better the hold. This is incredibly easy to do, if a little time consuming, I did play with the fit/positioning a little, but overall it took me about 30 minutes to get this set-up the way I wanted it. I have a exercise bike, with a full seat, not the bicycle looking one; this fit right on the center console (it blocked my view of the console, which is fine seeing as how the battery has been dead for months) and I used the two straps to loop it tightly around/over the handle bars.
The one bad thing about it, has nothing to do with the product itself….my exercise bike wobbles a little, especially at fast pace, and since this is tied right to the bike, the laptop then wobbles. I obviously don’t do major computing while exercising, so this didn’t bother me too much. My typical internet use while on the bike is netflix or facebook, if I happen to be reading something I just zoom the browser to make reading easier.
